Yadriel & Maria appreciation post ✿◕‿◕✿

HE SAID MORE THAN HE DID ALL SEASON. I THOUGHT HE DIDN’T CARE. I THOUGHT HE WAS JUST BEING NICE AND LETTING HIS BABY MAMA SEE THE BABY THAT HE PROBABLY DIDN’T REALLY WANT AND BARELY LOOKED AFTER BUT I WAS FUCKING WRONG. I WAS WRONG ABOUT HIM. HE’S JUST QUIET. THE DUDE IS STOIC AS FUCK AND HE FUCKING LOVES MARIA AND HE LOVES THAT BABY AND IT’S FUCKING BEAUTIFUL THE WAY HE GUSHES AND TALKS TO HER LIKE MARIA ASKED HIM TO DO BECAUSE HE WANTS HER TO GROW UP SMART AND LOVED.

But also look at how cute the baby is dressed in each visit. Who did that? Daddy did. But that’s exactly the kind of visual cue that gets lost when he’s getting judged for his bald head, tattoos and stoic (thuggish?) demeanor.

By far my favorite moment in the show, both seasons. And I don’t have a thing for babies. It’s just this show, showing beautiful moments in such original ways and showing minority characters with depth… I was so moved.

Wicklow’s Odyssey by R Cooper ( thealmightyris ) imagines a Civil War where dirigibles bomb cities from above and where radio technology (wireless telegraphy) aids Union spies. Rhoades commands the intelligence-gathering group for the Union, and the story follows the team as their mission in Charleston goes horribly wrong.
I truly enjoy love stories where one character carries a torch for the other, and Rhoades is a brilliant, scandalous rake who falls hard for Wicklow. However, since the story is told from Wicklow’s point of view, I cheered for him to FINALLY recognize Rhoades’ love in the midst of hiding from the Rebels and fighting through disaster after disaster. Watching Wicklow discover his feeling for Rhoades was painful and delightful in equal measure.
The supporting characters in this tale are wonderful, and it takes all of them to force Wicklow to acknowledge that there are people who love him and who would not leave him behind. I cannot wait to read Wicklow’s journey again because he captured my heart as thoroughly as he captured Rhoades’.
I beg y’all to read it. I need someone to love Rhoades and Wicklow with me!!!!!

*AW*
Also yes, people read this and write dirty smutty wonderful fanfiction for it that I will pretend I don’t know about and then read. Pls.
